Hasta la Vista, baby

After a brief tenure, marked by aggravation at every turn, my installation of Windows Vista RC1 is no more. The Ubuntu 5.10 "Breezy" installer has, at this moment, finished. There is a GUI, and networking, and sound right out of the box!. My goal is to really, no shit, switch to Linux as my desktop OS.

Ubuntu has its idiosyncrasies, but I've dug through them before, so I should be able to get things to my liking without too much grief. The real test will come with applications. Can OpenOffice make a convert out of someone who has been using MS Word since Word for Windows 2.0a came out? Can The Gimp pry me away from Photoshop?

Time will tell.
