Photoshop question...

Does anybody know how to do curved text in Photoshop (or if it can even do it)? I have a logo to make for a game, and I'm loath to dig up ashacat's copy of Freehand unless I have to.

If you're using Photoshop CS, and you've got the text tool selected, there's a button at the top center of the screen that looks like a capital "T" with an arc below it. That's the text curve tool. You can also reach it by selecting Layer -> Type -> Warp Text...

Thanks for the pointer ... it looks like my horse-and-buggy version (5.5) doesn't have that (unless I'm misunderstanding what 'render' means in the context of text layers)...

Ah. 5.5 didn't have that ability. You need 6.0 or later to be able to warp the text. You want me to take a hack at it?

Thank you for the offer! In the end, I went with something simpler that I knocked together in Viso (you can do free-rotates on blocks of text, and it has a more-than-adequate-for-this-job export to JPG) and then clorized in Photoshop.
